Startup Calgary becomes part of Calgary Economic Development
To support the local business community and strengthen the innovation ecosystem, Calgary Economic Development is pleased to announce Startup Calgary will become part of our organization to better serve the city’s early-stage entrepreneurs.
The official announcement will be made today during Calgary Economic Development’s annual Report to the Community lunch at the TELUS Calgary TELUS Convention Centre.
Calgary Economic Development was charged developing a local innovation framework when City Council approved the Opportunity Calgary funding initiative in February 2016. The three-year pilot project which transfers Startup Calgary’s programs and events to Calgary Economic Development was approved by City Council in April 2017.
Startup Calgary will retain its name and brand identity.
“The Structural changes in our economy and technological shifts are changing the way we do business,” said Mary Moran, President and Chief Executive Officer at Calgary Economic Development. “The ability of an ecosystem to generate and accelerate talent, ideas and capital is crucial and with Startup Calgary under our umbrella it will help provides greater support for local entrepreneurs.”
“Startup Calgary can focus on assisting the diverse and talented people with creative ideas in this city and onboarding them into our innovation ecosystem.
